Why DLF Exists

DLF was established to carry on Delarin’s remarkable legacy. She was a woman devoted to serving God and her community, dedicating over 30 years of her life to caring for others, both spiritually and physically. After a brief illness, she passed away, but her passion, compassion, and commitment continue to inspire everything we do at DLF. . Although gained by Heaven, her journey through highlighted a lot of gaps within the Nigerian healthcare system. Even with her position, she was not spared from the impacts and effects of these healthcare gaps.
Women across the world have it tough when it comes to their health, but African women and especially Nigerians have it tougher. Barriers like poverty, lack of proper medical infrastructure, an overwhelmed medical system, amongst other things have exacerbated the failing health of women. A lot of women battling cancers would rather hide it from their families because of the debilitating costs. A lot of cancers are treatable if diagnosed early, but that’s where the problem lies, unless it gets really bad, most women wouldn’t go in. They would rather use that money to feed their families and take care of more “important” things.
At DLF, the goal is to encourage more women to get checked when they start noticing symptoms. We want to drive the “the earlier the better” initiative. We also aim to supplement medication costs (not chemo, Radiotherapy, or immunotherapy). Medications that are needed to manage the patient, especially patients in palliative care.
We have founded DLF, along with God, to honour all that our mother stood for, both in the medical profession, her faith in Jesus, and all that her legacy encapsulated.

What Problems Do We Tackle?

Let’s get specific about the problems we see every day; the ones that keep us up at night and fuel our determination to do better.

The medication gap

Though chemotherapy and radiation are essential parts of cancer care, the medications that help women get through each day are often overlooked. The anti-nausea medication that lets you keep food down? The pain relief that helps you sleep? The supplements your body desperately needs to recover? These “smaller” costs add up fast and too many women go without because they can't afford them.

The Silence around Symptoms

Society teaches women to bear pain quietly, to put themselves last and to stay silent thereby leaving them to struggle alone. By the time many seek help, what could have been caught early has already progressed. We're tackling the cultural barriers that keep women from advocating for their own health.

Emotional Needs

Hospitals focus on your body, but your mind and spirit also need care. Seeing that cancer impacts more than physical health, we’re here to walk with you through every step, offering understanding and encouragement along the way.

What Problems Do We Tackle?

Let’s get specific about the problems we see every day; the ones that keep us up at night and fuel our determination to do better.

Faith-Centered Care

Our Christian faith runs deep. We witnessed firsthand how it sustained our mother, Adelarin, through her toughest battle with cancer. Her unwavering trust in God didn’t just carry her through her darkest moments; it became the foundation that held our entire family together before her diagnosis, during her treatment, and even after we said goodbye. Watching her lean into her faith with such grace and strength taught us that this kind of spiritual anchor isn’t just personal; it’s something we can offer to others walking the same difficult path. We pray with you, walk with you spiritually, and hold space for the deep questions that cancer brings about God, purpose, and hope, because we’ve sat in those same pews asking those same hard questions. We are sure that faith can make you stronger for the journey ahead

Genuine Empathy

We understand because we've faced this challenge ourselves. When you tell us you're scared about your next appointment, we remember that feeling. When you're frustrated with medical bills, we've been there. This shared experience means we understand the challenges you face, even the ones that are hard to put into words.

Patient-Centered Support

You are not a case number or a diagnosis to us. We shape our support around your needs, making sure you remain at the center of care.

Early Detection Advocacy

We're passionate about our “the earlier the better” approach because we've seen what happens when women wait too long. Through education and honest conversations, we're changing the narrative from fear and waiting to knowledge and action.

Compassionate Community

Gynecological cancer can make you feel invisible, but we see you. We create safe spaces where you can be honest about your fears, your pain, and your hopes without judgment or empty platitudes.

DLF stands as a beacon of faith, empathy, and action, proving that no woman should fight gynecological cancer alone.
